About Us

Platoon Digital is an investment team doing deep fundamental research in support of the people, protocols, and products powering web3. We take a long view on value creation opportunities and seek to bring more than just capital by contributing to the communities in which we participate.

We do our work. We look for great developer teams with track records of innovation and execution, considering the strength of strategic and investment partners. We conduct technical research to understand the foundational infrastructure on which ecosystems are built. We evaluate the long-term token model supply/demand dynamics, as well as the embedded incentives to improve and reinforce network success. We leverage our relationships across the ecosystem and on-chain analytics to understand and monitor the health of user engagement and network security.

We leverage over two decades of investment and operational risk management experience traversing various conditions—­including market crashes in credit, equity, and crypto.  We monitor and manage counter-party risk and hedge when we believe we can do so effectively and efficiently.

We believe we are uniquely equipped as a team to understand, analyze and capitalize upon the opportunities presented by the major technological, behavioral, and social changes presented and facilitated by blockchain technology and the next generation of the internet.

We invest our own capital and have investments in some of the companies and protocols we discuss.  We will tell you when we do.

Research Team

We are a diverse, collaborative team with a unique combination of experience in crypto and cyber forensics, traditional equity research, regulation, the law, and operations.

Eric Tzeng, Managing Partner

Eric leads our portfolio construction and financial risk management. He has over 17 years of long/short equity investing and risk-taking experience, primarily in fintech, business services, and media. Eric received a B.A in Mechanical Engineering from Brown University, graduating with the honor of Sigma Xi distinction for Engineering Research.

Erin Ross, Managing Partner

Erin is an operator with 18 years of legal, compliance, governance, and operational experience, primarily in the service of investment funds in the public and private equity and debt markets. Erin’s current and past board service includes both investment funds and technology companies, including most recently a consumer art, data and technology company bringing the traditional art market to the blockchain. Erin received a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Michigan, graduating with high honors and the honor of high distinction. She also received a J.D. degree from Columbia University School of Law, where she was named a James Kent Scholar and a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.

Eric Wallach, Partner

Eric leads due diligence and idea generation, leveraging over three years of deep cyber forensics experience, crypto technical research, data analysis and a deep network of legendary blockchain experts. Prior to joining the Platoon Digital team, Eric advised PostModern Partners, a Pantera spin-out and cross-market investment fund specializing in digital assets. Eric wrote his senior thesis at Yale on cryptographic principles and applications of smart contracts.
